About Me

Dr. Clifford JohannsenI began in the mental health field at age 19, while still an undergraduate student, and now have over 4 decades of experience. That has included settings such as private hospitals, state hospitals, county mental health programs, juvenile probation, teen residential treatment, teen wilderness therapy, drug and alcohol programs, and private practice.



My Offices

I have offices in Salem and Lake Oswego and I travel to various other sites for consulting, forensic, and volunteer work.

My work hours are generally 9AM to 6PM, and other hours by exception.

General Practice and Specializations

About one-third of my work involves individual psychotherapy with patients who have:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Adjustment problems

This is sometimes referred to as “general practice.” However, I also specialize in evaluation and treatment for:

  • Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Oppositional Defiant & Conduct Disorders
  • Addictions: alcohol, drugs, and Behaviors (gambling, sex, eating, etc.; this overlaps with impulse control problems, below)
  • Anger, abuse, and violence
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • A range of sexual concerns
  • Personality problems
  • Parenting challenges
  • Dementia
  • Sleep problems
  • Impulse control problems (angry exploding, shopping, stealing, firesetting, hair pulling, etc.)
